Reviews
Birra tacos were delicious! This was on my list for DC, and since I was in the area, I had to hit them up. I was really happy to see they opened a restaurant since I've seen so many reviews during the pandemic. I tried all the birria tacos and they were really delicious....but the guacamole..Bangerang! They don't have any seating but there are plenty of parks around to post up and enjoy.
Delivery order was great! Well packed and came quickly. Even was delicious. Ordered pozole, lamb birria,, and salsa verde. Will definitely order again.
Was looking forward to trying this place for a while, I normally don't leave reviews but I must because it's over hyped. Unless I went on a bad day, I tried the Lengua tacos and they tasted as if it was just boiled and not seasoned at all. The Asada were a extreme disappointment literally was covered with salted onions and the taco literally had 3 or 4 pieces of carne. There Lamb birria was okay but def not worth the money. So if you're in town make sure to start small as they don't let you buy tacos individually or mix and match. Bought a total of 12 tacos and lamb birria tacos, 4 drinks and a chocoflan and spent well over 100$.
Definitely not worth it
Hands down one of the best taco spots in the area. The food is amazing. The Birria tacos and consommé is off the charts. The salsa’s on the side also complement the food they serve. It’s takeout only and they have two windows but no entry to the store front building. It’s convenient for those walking
(U street) but driving to pick your food up is a headache seeing the parking is scarce everywhere in that area. If you wanna sit down I believe they recently opened a new location in a food hall. Well worth it!
We have ordered tacos here since they opened at the U Street location. Tacos made my owner were amazing. We enjoyed them so much that we would order the 12 taco platter. Now that the owner has opened at the downtown food court the U Street location has gone down hill. Tonight's 12 taco platter had about half the lamb, beef, and mushrooms as we usually receive. As soon as we opened the lid of the container we could tell that these tacos were made by someone who did not really care about making great food. Unless the owner starts dropping in to make sure that the employees take making traditional tacos to the highest standards then we will have to find a much better place for tacos. The website has a 6% service fee that is not disclosed until checkout. A zero tip returned an error. The $2.00 tip we paid was excessive for the quality of the service we received at the window.
My god these tacos are amazing and the Birria tacos that you dip in a gravy/juice are to die for! They are juicy, full of flavor, not too salty, and stuffed. These tacos are an ultimate stop in DC to satisfy those taste buds!!!
So good! I had the tacos de tinga (shredded chicken tacos), esquites (Mexican street corn), tres leches (3 milk soaked cake), and jamaica agua fresca. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend Taqueria Xochi!
If I were to capture the essence of Taqueria Xochi, the words that first spring to mind would be authenticity, flavor, and heart. Situated in the bustling heart of DC, this Mexican takeout/delivery restaurant is a true culinary gem that offers an unbeatable combination of high-quality, well-priced dishes, packed with vibrant flavors that transport you straight to the sun-soaked streets of Mexico.
The homemade tortillas, pillowy-soft with a hint of corn sweetness, deserve a special mention, as does the exquisite array of salsas and condiments which elevate each dish from fantastic to unforgettable.
To summarize, Taqueria Xochi is more than just a restaurant - it's a gateway to a rich and diverse culinary culture. It's a place that brings the flavor, heart, and soul of Mexico to DC, one delicious dish at a time. Whether you’re a lover of Mexican cuisine or a curious foodie, I cannot recommend Taqueria Xochi enough. It's a five-star fiesta of flavor that never disappoints!
